May 20, 2019, update for Office 2016 (KB3085534)

This article describes update 3085534 for Microsoft Office 2016 that was released on May 20, 2019.

Be aware that the update in the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home (see What version of Office am I using?).

This update fixes the following issues:

• Synchronizing a notebook from OneNote 2016 fails and you receive the following error message:
  
  We're sorry, something went wrong during sync. We'll try again later. (Error code: 0x803D0000)
  
  

  Note To fix this issue, you have to install updates 4461441 and 4464552 together with this update.

  This update also enables users to get the new Japanese era information. Users can use this update when they don’t use Windows Updates to get it.

  Note To enable this improvement, you have to install updates 4462243 and 4462119 together with this update.
  

• Fixes an issue that occurs after KB 4462238 is installed in which the system crashes when OneNote is started or when hyperlinks are clicked in Word or Outlook.

How to uninstall this update

Windows 10

1. Go to Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windows box, and then press Enter.
2. In the list of updates, locate and select KB3085534, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then select Search. If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.
2. Enter windows update, select Windows Update, and then select Installed Updates.
3. In the list of updates, locate and select KB3085534, and then select Uninstall.

Windows 7

1. Go to Start, enter Run, and then select Run.
2. Enter Appwiz.cpl, and then select OK.
3. Select View installed updates.
4. In the list of updates, locate and select KB3085534, and then select Uninstall.
