You cannot install a hotfix on a site server that is running Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Symptoms

When you try to install a hotfix on a site server that is running Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the hotfix is not installed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

This issue occurs for hotfixes that should apply to the current installation.

Cause

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • Hotfix 2676776 is installed on the site server.
  • You perform site maintenance or reset the site server after you install hotfix 2676776 . For example, you take one of the following actions:
    • You reapplying the default file and registry permissions on the site server,
    • You change the Microsoft SQL Server configuration.
    • You change the SMS provider configuration.
    Note This issue does not occur if you take one of these actions but hotfix 2676776 is not installed on the site server.
This issue occurs because the SMS\Setup registry value "Full Version" was changed incorrectly when hotfix 2676776 was installed on the site server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, manually change the SMS\Setup registry value "Full Version" to 4.0.6487.2000.

You can find the SMS\Setup registry value "Full Version" in one of the following locations, depending on your operating system:

For 64-bit operating systems:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SMS\Setup

For 32-bit operating systems:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\SMS\Setup
Important You must change this registry value if hotfix 2676776  is installed on the site server. Be aware that this is not a one-time fix. You must take this action every time that you perform site maintenance or reset the site server.
