Symptoms

After you install Microsoft FrontPage 2000 SR-1, if you click the FrontPage 2000 icon in the Programs folder, FrontPage may not start as expected. The FrontPage 2000 splash screen may appear, but the program may not start.

Cause

This issue can occur if FrontPage 2000 SR-1 is installed on a computer that already has Microsoft Office 2000 Premium installed. FrontPage 2000 SR-1 requires you to register the product before the first use. Office 2000 Premium includes FrontPage 2000 SR-1; therefore, FrontPage is already registered. Thus, on computers that have Office 2000 Premium installed already when FrontPage is installed again, the Product Registration dialog box does not appear and FrontPage 2000 SR-1 does not start.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps. NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel folder, double-click Add/Remove programs.
  3. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft FrontPage 2000 SR-1, and then click Remove.
  4. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft Office 2000 Premium, and then click Remove.
  5. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Close.
  6. Return to the desktop.
  7. Right-click Start, and then click Search (if your computer is running the Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) operating systems, click Find).
  8. In the Search Results dialog box, type Microsoft Office in the Search for files or folders named box, and then click Search.
  9. Select Microsoft Office, and then click Rename on the File menu.
  10. Rename Microsoft Office to Microsoft Office.old.
  11. Click Start, click Restart, and then click OK.
  12. Install Office 2000 Premium and follow the onscreen instructions.
  13. Restart your computer when prompted.
Because FrontPage 2000 SR-1 is included in Office 2000 Premium, there is no need to purchase and install FrontPage 2000 SR-1 separately. You can return the FrontPage 2000 SR-1 product to the store that you originally purchased it from if necessary.
