More information

The migration enhancements in Exchange 2000 Server SP2 include the following:
  • The Migration Wizard in Exchange 2000 SP1 includes the option to Migrate from Microsoft Exchange 5.5. In SP2, this option now reads Migrate from Microsoft Exchange. This means that, after the installation of SP2, you can now migrate from Exchange Server 5.5 or Exchange 2000 Server computers in a separate organization. There is a Exchange 5.5 Server check box on the Source Exchange Server page in the Migration Wizard.
  • Availability of a two-step personal folder (PST) migration from other Exchange Server computers. In SP1, the Migrate to .pst files option is available, but it does not create Intermediate Format Files (IFFs). This means that when you migrate to .pst files, only a single step is available in the migration process. The .pst files have to be manually added to the end user's Microsoft Outlook profile. The second step of a two-step PST migration (Import from Migration files) is now possible, because the Migration Wizard locates the IFFs. After it locates the IFFs, you can use the wizard to import the .pst files into the target information store. This new feature of migration can also be useful in disaster-recovery scenarios within the same Exchange Server organization.
  • The Create/modify mailbox accounts check box is located on the Migration Information page of the Migration Wizard, and it is selected by default. If you clear this check box, only mail is migrated and no new mailbox accounts are created in the Active Directory.
  • The Migrate mail messages within a date range check box is located on the Migration Information page of the Migration Wizard, and it allows you to filter messages by date range. By default, this check box is not selected. If you select it, you can enter and revise start and end dates. The Migration Wizard looks for the PR_MESSAGE_DELIVERY_TIME Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) property on each message when determining which messages should be migrated.
  • The Do not migrate mail messages with specific subjects check box is also located on the Migration Information page of the Wizard. This check box allows you to exclude messages with specific subject lines. By default, it is not selected. If you click to select this check box, a Subject List file must be referenced, including the full path and file name. The Subject List file referenced in this field must be saved in Unicode .txt format.
