Summary

When you create or edit a Web with Microsoft FrontPage 2000, you can set permissions and limit access to the Web that you create. This article explains how to reset the user permissions of a Web page back to default settings.

NOTE: Default permissions settings allow all browsers to view all Web pages.

You can specify who can access Webs in FrontPage by adding the users (and user groups) to the Web's user list and specifying the type of access the user has. Users can have one of the following types of permission:
Browse: the user can browse the files in the Web.
Author: the user can browse and change the files in the Web.
Administer: the user can browse and change the files in the Web, and can also administer the Web by adding and removing users. On computers running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), FrontPage grants administrator access by default to all members of the Microsoft Windows NT Administrators group and the SYSTEM account.

How to Reset FrontPage Web Permissions to Default Settings

To reset FrontPage Web permissions to default settings, follow these steps:
1.Log on as Administrator, and then open the FrontPage Web on which you want to reset the permissions.
2.On the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click Permissions.
3.If this is a subweb of a rootweb, ensure that Use unique permissions for this web is selected on the Settings tab.
4.On the Groups tab, remove any instance of the following: Everyone, Interactive, Network and IUSR_computer name.
5.On the Users tab, remove any instance of the following: Everyone, Interactive, Network and IUSR_computer name.
6.On the Users tab, click to select the Only Registered Users have access check box. Make sure that the Everyone has browse access check box is not selected, and then click Apply.
7.On the Users tab, click to select the Everyone has browse access check box, and then click Apply.
The permissions are now set back to minimum.
