This article describes an issue in which characters overlap and are unreadable in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012. An update is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

This issue occurs on applications that use the ScriptShapeOpenType function to obtain glyphs information and use the ScriptPlaceOpenType function to obtain glyphs width information from Unicode Script Processor for Uniscribe. The glyphs width information should be returned in visual order. However, it is returned in logical order.

This issue occurs because the ScriptPlaceOpenType function incorrectly returns glyphs data in logical order.

To install this update, you must have April 2014, update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
