Exchange 2000 SP2 offers the option to stop the Mailbox Manager process. This may be necessary if the process is not completed overnight, or if it is manually started during business hours and needs to be stopped.
To manually stop (or start) Mailbox Manager, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager to open the Exchange System Manager.
- Navigate to the following directory:
Exchange Organization\Administrative Groups\Administrative Group\Servers\ServerName
- Right-click the applicable server object.
A menu appears that displays either the Start Mailbox Management Process or Stop Mailbox Management Process option, depending on whether or not the process is already running.
When Mailbox Manager is stopped manually, logging processes (such as the Windows 2000 Event Viewer application log and admin report) indicate that Mailbox Manager was stopped instead of having finished on its own. For example, note the following, event ID 9215:
Event Type: Information
