This article describes an issue that occurs after you turn off the location feature in Group Policy setting in Windows RT 8.1 or Windows 8.1. You can resolve this issue by using the update in this article. Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section.

Symptoms

Applications that use the geofencing APIs still receive geofencing events that contain location coordinates, even after the location service is turned off in Group Policy.

Cause

This issue occurs because the function that checks for the permission checks only the policy manager and does not check the legacy "Turn off location" registry value.
