This article describes update KB3054940 for Microsoft Outlook 2013 that was released on July 14, 2015. This update also applies to Office Home and Student 2013 RT, and that contains Outlook 2013. This update has a prerequisite.

Please be aware that the update in Download Center applies to Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2013. It does not apply to the Office 2013 Click-to-Run editions such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?).

Improvements and fixes

  • Improves support for versioning checks when verifying the current version of Windows.
  • Adds handling for an empty message object during synchronization so that it will no longer result in a crash. This issue was observed during some shutdown scenarios.
  • Fixes the following issues:
    • When you reply, reply all, or forward an email message in Outlook 2013, the email header only displays the display names of the recipients, and does not display their email addresses. You can change this behavior by using a registry key.

      Note To control this behavior, see Email header only displays the display names of the recipients but not their email addresses in Outlook 2013 (KB3054903) .
    • After you change the language for Microsoft Lync 2013 (Microsoft Skype for Business), Lync 2013 (Skype for Business) may not respond.
    • Assume that you create an email item based on a form in Outlook 2013. Then, you set a flag such as a Follow Up flag or a High Importance flag on the item. When you close the email item, you are not prompted for a dialog box to save the item, and the tag is not saved as expected.
    • If you use OAuth to authenticate Microsoft Exchange, the connection status may become disconnected instead of displaying an OAuth credential prompt.
    • After a rule moves an email message that you send out to a folder in Outlook 2013, the legDN address of your account instead of the display name appears in the From field of the email message.
    • When you double-click a timeslot in the schedule view of a shared calendar in Outlook 2013, an appointment item instead of a meeting item is created.

    • When you try to use the object model method OpenSharedFolder to open a sharing online calendar in Outlook 2013, you receive an error E_FAIL (0x80004005) if the calendar has some items.
    • You cannot delete an iCalendar (.ics) or a vCalendar (.vcs) calendar for an Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) profile in Outlook 2013.
    • After you enter incorrect credentials multiple times for a mailbox in Outlook 2013, you have to enter the correct credential two times.
    • When you run a quick step to apply a retention policy to an item in Outlook 2013, the retention policy is still applied to the item even though the retention policy is deleted.
    • Meeting responses such as Accept, Decline, and Tentative are not displayed correctly on the Tracking tab in Outlook 2013.

How to determine whether my Office installation is Click-to-Run or MSI-based:
  1. Start Outlook 2013.
  2. On the File menu, click Account.
  3. For Office 2013 Click-to-Run installations, an Update Options item is displayed. For MSI-based installations, the Update Options item is not displayed.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. If you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
  2. Type windows update, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click View installed updates in the search results.
  3. In the list of updates, locate and then tap or click update KB3054940, and then tap or click Uninstall.
