An application on the Start screen moves to a different position on a Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld device

Symptoms

Assume that you have a mobile device that runs Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld in a language environment that does not support Cortana. After you run Windows Update on the device, you notice the following symptoms in the following order:
  1. The Cortana tile appears on the Start screen and occupies the tile position of another application.
  2. The Cortana tile disappears from the screen after a time.
  3. After the Cortana tile disappears, the tile for the application that was replaced by Cortana remains absent from its original position.
  4. The tile for the replaced application appears at the bottom of the Start screen.

Workaround

Currently, there is no workaround for this problem. However, you can set the Start screen back to its original state by moving the replaced application back to its original position.
