Internet Explorer Reverts to Version 2.0 After You Uninstall Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 on Windows NT 4.0 SP6a


Symptoms

After you apply Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 (SP2) to a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a (SP6a) and then uninstall Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, Internet Explorer reverts to version 2.0. After you restart your computer and try to start Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
Unable To Locate DLL

The dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll could not be found in the specified path.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:
  1. Reapply Windows NT 4.0 SP6a. For information about how to do so, please see the following Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP6a Web site:
