"Description cannot be found" error in event logs in Event Viewer in Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2012

Introduction

This article describes an issue in which the "Description cannot be found" error message is displayed in the event logs in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012. An update is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section.




This issue occurs after you install May 2014, update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2, or after you install Windows RT, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012 update rollup: May 2014 in Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012.

How to obtain this update

Important Do not install a language pack after you install this update. If you do, the language-specific changes in the update will not be applied, and you will have to reinstall the update. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
