Explorer hangs when saving a web image from the Search charm on Windows 8.1

Symptoms

Using the Search charm in Windows 8.1 to search for web images may cause Explorer to become unresponsive if you try to save an image with no file extension in the URL.

Cause

Explorer does not render web images correctly if the URL does not include a file extension for the image.

Resolution

To work around this issue, use your browser to search for and save the image.
