Symptoms

When you try to import a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 distribution list (DL) or User that contains a period as the twentieth character of the alias name, the Exchange 2000 Active Directory Connector (ADC) may not work and the following error messages may be logged in the Application event log:

Cause

This problem can occur if the Exchange 2000 ADC truncates the portion of the alias after the period leaving the period as the last character of the alias.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
