This article describes an update that improves Microsoft Hyper-V integration components (integration services) for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Before you install this update, see the Prerequisites section.

About this update

This update provides improvements to the Hyper-V in guest backup and restore experience as part of the Windows 10 Technical Preview and Window Server Technical Preview. These improvements are specific to Hyper-V's Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) API backup solutions. This update includes the following improvements: 
  • Support for backing up virtual machines (VMs) that use shared virtual hard disk (VHDX).
  • Better usage of Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) requestor.
  • Provider flags not to require Auto-recovery phase.
  • Stability and reliability improvements.
This update should be installed on guest operating systems that are being hosted on Windows 10 Technical Preview or Windows Server Technical Preview hosts.

Prerequisites

To install this update, you must have April 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (2919355) installed in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. Or, install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

Registry information

To apply this update, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this update.
