Symptoms

This issue occurs when a disk is attached to a virtual SCSI adapter as a pass-through disk on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based server.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use the virtual IDE controller instead of the virtual SCSI adapter, or upgrade the virtual machine host to a later version of Windows Server.

Note The virtual IDE controller does not support hot-add disks.
