FIX: Cannot disable the IME on a Windows Embedded Compact 2013-based device with Japanese IME 3.1

Introduction

This article describes an issue that occurs when you try to enter text directly by disabling the Input Method Editor (IME) in Windows Embedded Compact 2013. An update is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, all previously issued updates for this product must be installed.

Symptoms

Assume that you use the Japanese IME 3.1 in Windows Embedded Compact 2013. When you try to enter text directly into the edit box by disabling the IME, the IME remains enabled.

Windows Embedded Compact 2013 Monthly Update (January 2015) is now available from Microsoft. To download this Windows Embedded Compact 2013 monthly update, go to Microsoft OEM Online or MyOEM.

Registry information

After you apply this fix, you can enable or disable the Japanese IME by setting the value of the following DisableIMEControl registry:

Registry location:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\IME
DWORD name: DisableIMEControl
DWORD value: 1 - default value is 0

When you set its value to 1, the Japanese IME is disabled when it gets the focus in an edit control.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

On the Build menu, click Clean Solution, and then click Build Solution.
On the Build menu, click Rebuild Solution.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
