Rtcsrv.exe crashes when invalid address book normalization rules are defined in Lync Server 2013

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft Lync Server 2013, you define some address book normalization rules in the Company_Phone_Number_Normalization_Rules.txt file.
  • You run the following Lync cmdlet:

    Set-CsAddressBookConfiguration -UseNormalizationRules=$true -IgnoreGenericRules=$true
In this scenario, the Rtcsrv.exe process crashes.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Lync 2013 Front-End service cannot handle invalid normalization rules.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the February 2015 Cumulative Update for Lync Server 2013 (Front End Server and Edge Server).
