Setup auto-recovery fails during upgrade to Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 from the previous version of Windows

You encounter a failure during a second restart while the computer is upgraded from Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 to Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. This is because some drivers are uninstalled incorrectly during this process. Then, the system tries to recover automatically and continue with the upgrade. However, the retry is unsuccessful.

To resolve this issue, we have released an update for Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. This update has prerequisites to install.

This update is installed automatically by Dynamic Update during Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 to Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade.
