About the .NET Framework 4.6 RC

The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 RC is a highly compatible, in-place update to the Microsoft .NET Framework 4, the .NET Framework 4.5, the .NET Framework 4.5.1 and the .NET Framework 4.5.2.

The web installer is a small package that automatically determines and downloads only the components applicable for a particular platform. The web installer also installs the language pack matching the language of the user's operating system.

When you install this package, you can see following packages or updates installed as per operating system:
  • On Windows Vista SP2 / Windows 7 SP1/ Windows Server 2008 SP2 / Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, the Microsoft.NET Framework 4.6 RC is as an installed product under Programs and Features in Control Panel.
  • On Windows 8 / Windows Server 2012, it is as Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3033094) under Installed Updates in Control Panel.
  • On Windows 8.1 / Windows Server 2012 R2, it is as Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3033095) under Installed Updates in Control Panel.

This version of the .NET Framework runs side-by-side with the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and earlier versions, but performs an in-place update for the .NET Framework 4, the .NET Framework 4.5, the .NET Framework 4.5.1 and the .NET Framework 4.5.2.
