You Cannot Open a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 System Information File with Windows 2000

Symptoms

If you create a System Information file on a Windows XP-based or a Windows Server 2003-based computer, you cannot open that information (.nfo) file on a Windows 2000-based computer. If you attempt to do so, you receive the following error message:
SYSTEM INFORMATION:
File A:\Filename.nfo is not a System Information file. Select a System Information file.

Cause

The System Information tool that is included with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 is not compatible with System Information tool that is included with Windows 2000.

Resolution

To open the System Information file, open the Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 .nfo file on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.
