Narrator does not stop reading when you press Ctrl key in Windows

This article describes an issue that occurs when you press Ctrl key in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite.

Symptoms

Assume that you press the Ctrl key when Narrator is reading; Narrator says "control" or continues to read the contents that are displayed on the screen. You may have to press the Ctrl key multiple times to make Narrator stop reading aloud.

Note Narrator should stop reading when you press the Ctrl key just one time.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
