Outlook for Mac for Office 365 - December 2014 Update

Summary

Microsoft has released an update to Outlook for Mac for Office 365. This release is available to eligible Office 365 subscribers only.

This update provides the following new functionality and improvements:

  • Calendar Color
    • Calendar now supports colors. Right-click a calendar folder in the Folder Pane in Calendar view, and select Color. Different colors will be assigned for calendars added, which can be changed at any time.    
  • Alternate Text 
    • Add alt text to images when composing. Select an image and then select Add Alternative Text from the context menu by right-clicking the image, or from the Format menu.  
  • Improved Information Rights Management (IRM) Support
    • Custom templates, such as “Do Not Forward,” are now supported.    
  • Improved Delegation
    • External pictures for messages in delegated or public folders will now be downloaded when the delegate has read-only permissions to those folders.
    • Clicking Send Permissions Summarywill send a summary email to the delegate even when no changes are made to the current permissions settings. 
  • Improved Stability
    • Top crashes fixed

Prerequisites

You must be on OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 or later.

How to obtain the update

  • Office 365 Commercial customers can get the new Outlook for Mac by accessing their Office 365 Portal, (Gear icon > Office 365 Settings > Software > Outlook for Mac icon) or visiting the Software page.
  • Office 365 consumer subscribers can get the new Outlook for Mac by going to their My Account page.
How to install the update

Once the download has completed, double-click the “Microsoft Outlook.dmg” file. In the window that is opened, double-click on “Microsoft Outlook.pkg” to launch the installer, then follow the prompts. If you already have a previous version of Outlook for Mac, the installer will install the new version over the previous version.
