This article explains how to create a virtual server (Web site) on a Microsoft Office Server Extensions-based computer, and how to configure it to use only the FrontPage Server Extensions features of the Office Server Extensions.
When you configure a Web site to use the Office Server Extensions, you are prompted to configure the Web Collaboration Database. You may want to create a virtual server and configure it without using the Web Collaboration Database.
Install the FrontPage 2000 Portion of Office Server Extensions
To create a virtual server that uses only the FrontPage Server Extensions features of Office Server Extensions, follow these steps:
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
1. | On the server computer, start Internet Services Manager. |
2. | In the Internet Information Services dialog box, click *computername (where *computername is the name of the server computer) under Internet Information Services. |
3. | On the Action menu, point to New, and then click Web Site.
The Web Site Creation Wizard starts. |
4. | Follow the steps in the Web Site Creation Wizard to create a Web site. |
5. | Under *computername, right-click the new Web site that you created, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu that appears. |
6. | On the Web Site tab in the TCP Port box, type any port number except 80. For example, type 8080. |
7. | Click Apply, and then click OK. |
8. | Right-click the new Web site that you created, point to All Tasks on the shortcut menu that appears, and then click Configure Server Extensions. The Server Extensions Configuration Wizard starts. |
9. | In the Server Extensions Configuration Wizard dialog box, click Next. The following message appears:
The Configuration Wizard cannot configure this Web site with the Office Server Extensions Web Collaboration features because it uses a port number other than 80. You can continue, but Web Collaboration will not be available.
