Symptoms

When you use Microsoft FrontPage to publish to a remote Web server through a proxy server, you may receive an error message similar to the following after you submit your user name and password:
Authorization required: This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document you requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.
Not found: The requested URL /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll was not found on this server.
NOTE: This issue does not occur if you publish without going through a proxy server.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and then click Advanced.
  4. In the Exceptions box, type the Web address that you want to publish to, and then click OK.

NOTE: In some cases you may need to type the IP address for the site you want to publish to rather than the Web address.
  5. In the Internet Options dialog box, click OK.
  6. Restart FrontPage.
