Report Builder does not start after Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 R2 is installed

Symptoms

Assume that you have Service Pack 2 installed for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, and then you upgrade the program to Service Pack 3. When you try to start Report Builder from Report Manager, Report Builder does not start. Instead, you receive the following error message:

* Activation of http://.../ReportServer/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:

Microsoft.ReportingServices.ComponentLibrary.Controls.dll, has a different computed hash than specified in manifest.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Client-side

Install and run one of the following:

Method 2: Server-side

Follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall Service Pack 3.
  2. Uninstall Service Pack 2.
  3. Reinstall Service Pack 3.
