Computer freezes when the focus repeatedly changes among text boxes in Windows

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you have a computer that is running Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012. If you are using an input method editor (IME) to enter text (for example, you enter Japanese or Korean text), and if the focus is changed repeatedly among some text box controls, the computer freezes. When this issue occurs, you have to restart the computer.

Note If you check the resources status in Windows Task Manager, you notice that the system is out of memory.

Cause

This issue occurs because a memory leak occurs in the Msctf.dll file. The memory leak causes the system to freeze.
