How to dynamically set the input parameters of a report at run time in an ADP

Summary

Unlike with a form, you cannot use the InputParameters property to set the parameters of a report at run time. However, you can set the record source of the report at run time, and then pass the appropriate values to the stored procedure. This article shows you how to do so.

Step-by-Step Example

  1. Start Microsoft Access.
  2. Open the sample project NorthwindCS.adp.
  3. Create a new report that is based on the Sales By Year stored procedure.
  4. After you set up the design of the report, open the property sheet for the report, and then delete the record source.
  5. In the property sheet, click the Event tab, and then click in the OnOpen event box.
  6. Click the Build (...) button, and then click the Code Builder in the Choose Builder dialog box.
  7. Type or paste the following code into the module:
    Private Sub Report_Open(Cancel As Integer)
        Dim strRecordSource As String
        strRecordSource = "Exec [Sales By Year] '1/1/97','12/31/98'"
        Me.RecordSource = strRecordSource
    End Sub
  8. Save the report, and then open it in print preview.
Note that the report displays only data from 1997 through 1998.
