Domain controller freezes when an event subscription manager list is long in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Symptoms

Assume that a domain consists of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 servers and clients. Additionally, an event subscription manager list that is configured by using Group Policy Objects (GPOs) has more than 30 items. In this situation, a deadlock may occur in the thread pool for the Svchost.exe process that hosts network services. This forces other threads that are related to the Svchost.exe process to wait. Therefore, the domain controller freezes.

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods to obtain and install the update.

  • The files that apply to a specific product, milestone (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:
