Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • You type more than one line of text in a text control that has the Word Wrap property enabled in an application.
  • You move the cursor to the beginning of the first line, and then you type a character.
In this scenario, the application crashes.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a buffer underflow when the application tries to find the correct position of the cursor.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, we have released a hotfix for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, and we have released an update rollup for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2.
Shall I choose hotfix or update rollup?
The update rollup fixes many other issues in addition to the issue that the hotfix fixes. We recommend that you use the update rollup. The update rollup is larger than the hotfix. Therefore, the update rollup takes longer to download.

To resolve this issue, install the November 2014 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
