September 2014 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.815 for Lync Server 2013, Conferencing Attendant

This article describes the cumulative update that improves the reliability, stability, and performance of Microsoft Lync Server 2013, Conferencing Attendant. The version number of this update is 5.0.8308.815. Check out the Known issues that may occur after you install this update.

How to install the update

To install the cumulative update for Lync Server 2013, Conferencing Attendant, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Server Update Installer

The Cumulative Server Update Installer applies all updates for the appropriate server role in one operation. To use the Cumulative Server Update Installer, follow these steps.

Note If User Account Control (UAC) is turned on, you must start the Cumulative Server Update Installer by using elevated permissions to make sure that all updates are installed correctly.
  1. Download the Cumulative Server Update Installer. To do this, go to the following Microsoft Download Center website:
    Download Download the update package now.
  2. Run the Cumulative Server Update Installer by using the UI or by using a command line.

    Note When you click Install Updates, the UI provides a clear indication of which updates are installed.

    To run the Cumulative Server Update Installer, run the following command:

    LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe  
    Note You can use the following parameters with the LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe command:
    • The /silentmode switch applies all applicable updates in the background.
    • The /silentmode /forcereboot switch applies all applicable updates in the background, and then it automatically restarts the server at the end of the installation process if this is necessary.
    • The /extractall switch extracts the updates from the installer, and saves the updates in a subfolder that is named "Extracted" in the folder from which you ran the command.
After you run the Cumulative Server Update Installer, you must update all the applicable back-end servers. For more information about how to do this, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Method 2: Microsoft Update

The cumulative update is also available from the Microsoft Update website.

Note After you install this cumulative update by using Microsoft Update, you must update the databases on the back-end servers. For more information about how to do this, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

There are no prerequisites for installing this cumulative update.

Registry information

To use one of the cumulative updates in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

Update replacement information

This cumulative update does not replace a previously released update.

Update package installation information

To apply this cumulative update, run CAA.msp on computers that are running the following server roles:
  • Lync Server 2013 - Standard Edition Server
  • Lync Server 2013 - Enterprise Edition - Front End Server

Restart requirement

You may have to restart the computer after you apply this cumulative update.


Known issue
After you install this cumulative update, you may experience an issue that is described here.

Symptoms
After you install this cumulative update on a system that is running Microsoft Lync Server 2013, you find that the Central Logging Service is not listening on designated ports. This means the Central Logging Service does not start or capture data. When this issue occurs, an exception error message that resembles the following is logged in the event log:
Cause
This issue may occur because you install this cumulative update on Lync Server 2013 before you install the August Update of Lync Server 2013.

Workaround

To work around this issue, you must follow one of these methods based on your scenarios:

Scenario 1

If you do not have August 2014 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.738 installed, install the following OCSCore.msp from the August 2014 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.738, and then install this September 2014 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.815.
Download Download the OCSCore.msp update package now.

Scenario 2

If you have already installed this September 2014 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.815 without first installing August 2014 Cumulative Update 5.0.8308.738, you must uninstall this September 2014 Cumulative Update, and then follow the instructions in Scenario 1.

The global version of this cumulative update uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the cumulative update. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
