If you reveal a previously hidden distribution list (DL), either by using the Exchange Task Wizard in the Active Directory Users and Computers console or by manually setting the hideDLMembership property to false, the distribution list may remain hidden.

This problem can occur when you change a group's attribute to "hideDLMembership=FALSE," because the Recipient Update Service does not apply the Hidden DL Membership System policy. Therefore, the Recipient Update Service does not remove the non-canonical security descriptor; removing the non-canonical security descriptor is what effectively reveals the group.
