"0xc000009a" Error when you press the Esc key on the WDS boot menu in Windows Server

Symptoms

Assume that you have a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI)-based computer, and you make it PXE boot from a Windows Deployment Services (WDS) server. When the Windows Boot Manager is loaded and the operating system list is displayed, if you press the Esc key to cancel the operation, you may receive the following error message:

Windows Deployment Services (Server IP: xx.xx.xx.xx)

Windows Deployment Services encountered an error:
Error Code: 0xc000009a

Cause

This error message is because of a problem in the Windows PXE boot code. On UEFI systems, it does not properly handle this scenario.

Resolution

To work around this problem, press Enter to restart the system, or press Esc again to exit and then select PXE boot again.
