SD card is not recognized when you wake up the computer in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a computer that is running Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • You connect an SD card reader together with the hardware id VID_0BDA&PID_0307 to the computer through a USB port.
When you insert an SD card into the SD card reader, the SD card cannot be recognized in one of the following scenarios:

  • Immediately after you wake the computer from sleep mode.
  • The computer does not go to sleep but the SD card reader is idle for a long time without an SD card inserted.
