Issues caused by a back-up or by a scan of the Exchange 2000 M drive

View products that this article applies to.

Summary

Do not try to back up or to use an antivirus scanner against drive M of an Exchange 2000 Server computer. If you do this, problems may occur with calendaring, such as disappearing appointment items, access to attachments and messages, damage to the Exchange 2000 database, mail flow issues, and receiving false reports of a virus. Additionally, you may notice an unusually large number of transaction log files being created in the Program Files\Exchsrvr\Mdbdata folder or in the transaction log file location. These files may be created at approximately the same time on a nightly or weekly basis.
