This article describes update 2986204 for Microsoft Outlook 2013 that was released on October 14, 2014. This update also applies to Office Home and Student 2013 RT that contains Outlook 2013.

Please be aware that the update in Download Center does not apply to Microsoft Office 365 editions such as Office 365 Home.

Improvements and fixes 

This update fxes the following issues: 
  • Outlook 2013 may be unable to connect to an Exchange server by using the MAPI over HTTP protocol.
  • When you send an email message that contains a large attachment by using Outlook 2013, Outlook may stop responding.

More Information

This update applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Outlook 2013. It does not apply to the Outlook 2013 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. 

How to determine whether your Office installation is Click-to-Run or .msi-based:
  1. Start Outlook 2013.
  2. On the File menu, click Account.
  3. For Office 2013 Click-to-Run installations, an Update Options item is displayed. For MSI-based installations, the Update Options item is not displayed.

How to uninstall this update
Windows 8
  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. If you are using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.
  2. Type windows update, tap or click Settings, and then tap or click View installed updates in the search results.
  3. In the list of updates, locate and then tap or click update KB2986204, and then tap or click Uninstall.
Windows 7
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  3. Click View installed updates.
  4. In the Name column, locate KB2986204.
  5. Select the update, and then click Uninstall.
