This article discusses the Slipstream ISO images of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (SP2) that were previously available on the MSDN and TechNet subscription websites from July 1, 2014 through July 9, 2014 and refreshed on July 18, 2014.
The Slipstream ISO images (for example, SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition with Service Pack 2 (x64) – DVD (English)) enable you to install a new instance of SQL Server 2012 with SP2 already applied. By using these images, you do not have to install the SQL Server 2012 SP2 update separately after you install SQL Server 2012 RTM.
However, the original Slipstream ISO images that were posted on MSDN and TechNet before the image refresh do not install the service pack successfully. Instead, the installation remains at the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of SQL Server 2012.
