Revoking Microphone device access breaks media playback application

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Assume that you have a media playback application that is running, and a media file is opened in it. The file in the application could be playing, paused, or stopped. After you change the privacy settings and revoke the access to the microphone device, the media playback application cannot play the loaded content correctly. Specifically, there is no audio output, and if a video file is being played, then the video playback may be slow.

For more information about how to change the related privacy settings, please refer to the "More Information" section.

Resolution

To work around this issue, restart the affected application, or reopen the media file in the application.

This issue only occurs if you change the global Let apps use my microphone setting, and it will not occur if you change the permission on a per-application basis. Therefore, you can change the permission on a per-application basis to prevent this issue from occurring.
