Symptoms

If you configure Outlook 2002 to use offline folder (.ost) files, any changes that you make to your mailbox or while you are offline may not be automatically synchronized.

Cause

This behavior is by design.

Previous versions of Microsoft Outlook automatically synchronized any changes that you made while you were offline and updated your Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox the next time that you connected to the Exchange Server. Outlook 2002 does not do this.

Workaround

To work around this behavior, set Outlook to automatically synchronize all folders when you quit the program while you are online. To do this:
  1. On the Tools Menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click Define Send/Receive Groups.
  2. In the section marked Setting for group All Accounts, click to check the Perform an automatic send/receive when exiting check box, and then verify that both the check boxes that are marked Include this group in send/receive (F9) are elected.
  3. Click Close.
You may also press F9 on your keyboard and manually synchronize your .ost files at any time, as long as a network connection is available.
