VMMS Error event 15090 is logged when you try to remove a vhd or vhdx file in Hyper-V Manager

Symptoms

When you try to remove a vhd file or a vhdx file by using Hyper-V Manager in a Windows Server 2012-based Hyper-V virtual machine, the following Error event is logged in the event log:

Log Name : Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS/Admin
Source: Hyper-V-VMMS
Event ID: 15090
Level: Error
Message: 'VM Name' failed to modify resources. (Virtual machine ID 'VM GUID')

Cause

This event is logged because of an issue in the update process of the VM configuration file that occurs after you remove the vhd or vhdx file.

In this situation, the file removal procedure is successful. We have determined that this Error event does not indicate an actual problem. Therefore, you can safely ignore it.
