View products that this article applies to.

This article describes an issue that occurs when volumes are mounted in Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows RT, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012. The issue is resolved in a hotfix that is described in this article and has a prerequisite.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have volumes that are running on a Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows RT, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012-based computer.
  • You use the Dell AppAssure product to back up the data on the volumes to a Distributed File System (DFS) server.
  • The Dell AppAssure product validates the integrity of the data by reconstructing the backed up information on the DFS server, and it mounts the reconstructed data as a volume.
  • The Dell AppAssure product then performs various integrity checks.
In this scenario, the server crashes with a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0x00000018 ( parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4 )

Notes

  • This Stop error indicates a REFERENCE_BY_POINTER issue.
  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x00000018" Stop errors are caused by this issue.
