Unable to initialize standalone Windows Deployment Services server

Summary

After you uninitialize Windows Deployment Services (Windows DS) as a standalone environment on a Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2 system, you cannot use the following command to initialize the server:
wdsutil /initialize-server /reminst:e:\remoteinstall

Cause

This issue occurs because Windows DS can be configured to integrate with Active Directory, or it can be configured as a standalone server to not use Active Directory.

Resolution

To work around this issue, use the following command to initialize the Windows DS server as a standalone server:
wdsutil /initialize-server /reminst:e:\remoteinstall /standalone
