Symptoms

An Exchange 2000 Server computer that a fax gateway is installed on may convert a fax address that contains an area code that is surrounded by parenthesis and that is less than 300 to a character.

For example, [FAX:1(206)234-5678] might be converted to its Unicode representation.

Cause

This problem can occur if the message causes the information store to convert the address string. For example, the following address string, which is 1(206)987-6543
Submitted address: 00 31 28 32 30 36 29 39 38 37 2D 36 35 34 33 00
is converted to the following address string, which is 1i987-6543:
00 31 CE 39 38 37 2D 36 35 34 33 00
