Symptoms

If an Exchange Server 5.5 mailbox was created by using Active Directory Users and Computers in Mixed mode in the source organization, the Active Directory Connector (ADC) replicates the mailbox to the Exchange Server 5.5 directory as a mailbox with no MAPI-Recipient attribute. If you attempt to migrate this mailbox to the target organization with the Exchange Migration Wizard, the account may not be found, and therefore may not be migrated.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

More information

The Exchange Migration Wizard in Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1 (SP1) can migrate mailboxes in an Exchange Server 5.5 organization to an Exchange 2000 server in a separate Exchange 2000 organization. The actual LDAP query used by the Migration wizard is below, and can be seen in a Network Monitor trace:
(&(objectClass=person)(!(|(objectclass=groupOfNames)(objectClass=Mailbox-Agent)(objectClass=MHS-Message-Store)))(MAPI-Recipient=TRUE)(Home-MTA=<DN of MTA>))
