Application freezes when it uses .NET Framework 4.0 in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have computers that are running Windows RT, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012.
  • You run an application that calls a ReaderWriterLockSlim class in Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 on the computer.
In this scenario, the application freezes and cannot be used.

Cause

This issue occurs because a deadlock event is not released in .NET Framework 4.0 after it calls into the kernel OS primitive functions.

Resolution
