Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2-based Hyper-V host.
  • You have a Hyper-V virtual machine (VM) that is running on Server Message Block (SMB) storage.
  • You log on the Hyper-V host by using a domain admin account and move this VM to another SMB share in a Hyper-V management console.
  • You log off the Hyper-V host.
In this scenario, the Kerberos ticket expires. Therefore, the connection between the VM and the SMB share is lost and the VM goes offline.
