Exchange System Manager error message viewing the properties of a public folder

Symptoms

When you attempt to retrieve client permissions of a public folder in Microsoft Exchange Server, you may receive the following error message:
The information store could not be opened. The Logon to the Microsoft Exchange server computer failed.

Cause

This problem can occur if the last server in that public folder's replica list is unavailable or cannot be contacted by the computer that is running the Exchange System Manager.

Resolution

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
