Deadlock makes server farm sites unavailable when a backup job fails

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You run Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM), and you install the DPM agents on Microsoft SharePoint farm servers.
  • You create a DPM protection group to protect this SharePoint farm.
  • You run a backup job.

In this scenario, the backup fails intermittently, and SQL Writer experiences a deadlock condition that leaves sites in the server farm unavailable.

Note This deadlock condition may occur when other requestors outside DPM are used. Additional services outside SharePoint may also be affected.
