Account name appears as “%1” in a Refresh your PC screen on Norwegian versions of Windows 8.1

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  1. You are running a Norwegian version of Windows 8.1.
  2. You boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and choose to Refresh your PC.
After you select your user account, the account name may appear as “%1” in some of the Refresh screens.

Cause

Microsoft is aware of this known issue in Windows 8.1.

Resolution

You can safely ignore the errant account name and continue through the Refresh your PC screens. The account will maintain the proper account name after performing the Refresh.
