A long delay occurs before a data tip is displayed when you switch to the Watch window or rest the mouse on an item

Symptoms

When you edit a project in Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 and then switch to the Watch window or rest the mouse on an item, a long delay may occur before the data tip is displayed.

Cause

This behavior occurs because of a problem in the expression evaluation. The Debug Interface Access (DIA) API unnecessarily turns a non-regular expression search into an expensive regular expression search. This behavior occurs because of a workaround for a very old issue that occurs when the compiler generates symbol names.
